Westways Lifestyle: What's New
You don't have to be a VIP to get free, personalized tours of the Getty Center. The new GettyGuide system, which wirelessly links handheld computers, workstations at the Getty, and the Internet, will lead you on a tour of your choosing. Start at www.getty.edu or one of the GettyGuide workstations, where you can choose the items you'd like to see. Then pick up a handheld computer in the lobby. A docent will program it to the specifications you made, and it will sense your location, display your first selection, map directions to it, and sometimes even offer audio commentary. You also can choose a ready-made tour or make selections as you browse the galleries. There's even an option that allows you to retrieve additional information about the artworks at one of the workstations or via e-mail at home. 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles; (310) 440-7300.
